Benfica took an early lead against Marseille in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarterfinal, with goals from Rafa Silva and Angel Di Maria giving them a 2-1 advantage. First Half Dominance from Benfica
Benfica started the game brightly and took the lead after just 10 minutes. Rafa Silva was on hand to finish off a cross from Alejandro Grimaldo, giving the hosts the perfect start. Marseille struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first half, and Benfica doubled their lead just before the break. Di Maria scored a stunning goal from outside the box, leaving Pau López with no chance.
Marseille Fight Back in Second Half
Marseille came out with more purpose in the second half and pulled a goal back through Ünder. The Turkish winger latched onto a loose ball and fired past Odysseas Vlachodimos to give Marseille hope. However, Benfica held on for the win, and they will now take a slender advantage into the second leg.
