Benfica vs Marseille: Hosts Earn Advantage in Uefa Europa League Quarterfinal

Rafa Silva and Angel Di Maria on Target as Benfica Secure 2-1 Victory

Benfica took an early lead against Marseille in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarterfinal, with goals from Rafa Silva and Angel Di Maria giving them a 2-1 advantage. Cengiz Ünder pulled one back for Marseille, but it was not enough to prevent Benfica from taking a narrow lead into the second leg.

First Half Dominance from Benfica

Benfica started the game brightly and took the lead after just 10 minutes. Rafa Silva was on hand to finish off a cross from Alejandro Grimaldo, giving the hosts the perfect start. Marseille struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first half, and Benfica doubled their lead just before the break. Di Maria scored a stunning goal from outside the box, leaving Pau López with no chance.

Marseille Fight Back in Second Half

Marseille came out with more purpose in the second half and pulled a goal back through Ünder. The Turkish winger latched onto a loose ball and fired past Odysseas Vlachodimos to give Marseille hope. However, Benfica held on for the win, and they will now take a slender advantage into the second leg.
